The NHPA purchases office building in downtown Concord.
Over the years, the NHPA Board has considered whether or not the NHPA should invest in commercial property somewhere close to the downtown area of Concord. The idea was to identify a property that could be a source of revenue for the membership while possibly providing a space for meetings and act as our headquarters. This has been discussed from time to time but no concrete action had been taken.
In the Fall of 2017, NHPA President Patrick Cheetham noticed a commercial building located at 8 Centre Street in Concord was on the market. This building is located only a short walk from the State House and the downtown. It housed a number of tenants with the owners operating a law practice there for many years. It seemed to match the needs of our organization. The Board authorized Cheetham to conduct inquiries on this property.
A committee was formed to review the property and make recommendations to the full board. This committee was experienced in construction and property maintenance. The building was in good shape and all of the major potential improvements had already been recently made by the owners. The current tenants all expressed a desire to remain as tenants once the building was sold. The Board voted to hire a commercial building inspection company to conduct a more thorough review prior to making an offer on the property.
After a successful inspection of the property, the Board authorized President Cheetham to make an offer on the property which was accepted. We established a new committee to oversee the management of the property and appointed a POC for the tenants. We will continue to operate out of our Manchester office for the foreseeable future.
The NHPA will be holding a short presentation at our new property sometime next month in June. Details will be shared on our web site and Facebook page when the date is finalized.
